Hughes takes 2nd in Campra Junior 5km Classic
Fiona Hughes (19) from Huddersfield was in excellent form on Sunday 30 December 2009, taking a well deserved 2nd place in the Ladies 5km Junior Classic at Campra. This podium place gained her World Cup qualification for the first time with 112.66 FIS points, something she has been striving for these last 2 seasons. Well done! The race was won by Suisse racer Patricia Sprecher (18) in 16.07.8 from 26 starters.
In the other main ladies 10km classic race, Posy Musgrave came 13th in 35:28.7 pipping Sarah Young 14th in 35:44.7. The race was won by Serina Boner from Switzerland in 31.02. Coach Roy Young said that the girls were reasonably pleased with their performance. 17 ladies starter the race.
On Saturday in the Sprints Posy Musgrave came 10th, with Fiona Hughes 19th and sarah Young 24th, out of 45 starters.
Coach Roy Young, before dashing off to the prizegiving, said that the "Team are pretty excited by the 2 podiums again this weekend in their age groups and this adds to their confidence."
