Other funding

I have just found out that I’m getting TASS 2012 funding. I have had TASS core funding for the past 2 years. I am reliant on my parents for covering my costs for the winter. I have spent the summer doing an engineering placement, and also get paid to garden at home. I am using savings and money I have put away in bonds when I was younger to pay for my skiing.

Personal interest information

I first went skiing on a family holiday to Norway when I was 8. From then onwards we went once a year. After competing in a fun race whilst in Norway in 2002 I got involved with BNDS in the summer of 2003. I did my first competitive race when I was 14.

I really enjoy the challenge of cross country skiing. I enjoy the excitement of racing and the satisfaction after doing well. I like travelling to all the different places I go to to compete and meeting new people through the sport.

Fitting in training with everything else had made me really good at time management. I train between 8 and 20 hours a week. I the summer this involves running, biking, roller skiing and strength work. In the winter it is skiing on snow and strength work.

The 2 downsides about cross country skiing are the costs on the individual and the lack of British clubs involved in racing and getting children involved in the sport.

My aims for this season are

  • To get a top 20/25 position at the World Junior Championships
  • To qualify to compete at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver (I haven’t decided what my aim is in terms of finish position yet).
  • To get more podium results in junior FIS races
