This season I am receiving a grant from TASS – the Talented Athletes Scholarship Scheme. This gives money towards costs such as travel and accommodation during the winter while I’m away and also provides services such as physiotherapy and medical care. Other than that I work during the summer to earn enough money to ski during the winter and I also get some parental support.
Personal information
I started skiing aged about 8 when my family moved to Alaska as it is very popular there. I started competing and skiing more seriously a year or so before I moved back to Scotland. Then after moving back to Scotland I kept skiing despite it being a bit more challenging, especially with the lack of snow! For the last 4 years I have been studying full time at the University of Birmingham as well as continuing to ski. It can be quite difficult to combine the two normally we are expected to do anything between 8 and 18 hours of training a week. All the hard work seems worth it though when you get to actually ski and compete. We have a really good team who get on very well together, which makes all the training go quickly even when it gets tough. Having just graduated this summer I have decided to take a year out to ski full time. It will be the first time I’ve ever been able to focus just on skiing so I’m hoping to get some good results!
