Winter season opens in Scandinavia
The ski season starts in earnest this Friday (16th November 2012) in both Sweden and Norway. British skiers will be in action at Bruksvallarna, Sweden and Beitostolen, Norway, skiing alongside teams from every skiing nation in the warm-ups to the first World Cup race the following weekend. Fiona Hughes of the GB Senior Team featured on BBC News "Look East" this week, demonstrating just how far a determined skier can go even in snow-scarce Britain. Ian Ballentine of Rollerski.co has a stand at the London Ski& Snowboard Show from Wednesday 31 October - Sunday 5 November 2012. He will have a practice area where he hopes to make some nordic converts. On the Wednesday afternoon John Moore OBE, who represented GB at the Olympics in the 1960's as both a skier and a biathlete, will be at the stand. Some of the BNDS skiers who are aiming for selection to the GB Team at the 2013 European Youth Olympics have just returned from a week's skiing at the Torsby ski tunnel in Sweden.
