FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Champs

Monday 25 January 2010, saw the start of a busy week of racing for the GB Nordic Team with 8 team members competing in World Juniors (U20) Sprints and World Under 23 events near Hinterzarten in the Black Forest in Germany, against representatives from around 35 nations.

GB Champs update from Ruhpolding

altRuhpolding is a small town in Southern Bavaria, very near the border with Austria. It is an international biathlon centre and a world cup course.

The BNDS team here consists of 5 athletes and 2 coaches Peter Gurney and Angharad Evans.

In Ruhpolding today it was -5C for the races with blue skies. However snow conditions were difficult as a mixture of man made and natural snow, also 200 racers before our athletes set off...

Olympics & BNDS

altThe British Nordic Ski Team, run on behalf of SnowSportGB by BNDS, has fulfilled the first part of its ambition by producing a group of young athletes who have reached British Olympic qualification standard.  It now looks forward to the second part of the challenge -  competing well in the 2010 Winter Olympics at Whistler, Vancouver.

Young claims second Swiss crown for Britain.

In the second day of Cross-country ski racing at Marbach, Switzerland, Andrew Young (17, Huntly) of the British Nordic Ski Team has added another Swiss championship to his list of wins.  In the 15k Junior Pursuit race on Saturday he took the U18 title and came 4th in the Junior (U20) race. 

Pursuit racing involves a change of skiing style (and thus a change of skis)...
